The full moon is a time to wash away negative energies and make room for new growth in your life. The peak of the lunar cycle, the fullest of the moon can help to illuminate what no longer serves us, as well as amplify whatever energy we are putting out at the time…..so keep it positive! This is a time of completion and when things come into fruition. If you’ve planted the seeds of new intentions during the new moon this is the time to see what’s worked and what hasn’t, learn any lessons and let go of what doesn’t work and move on.
The full moon in May is called the flower moon, as this is the month where the flowers come into full bloom. This particular moon is a time to celebrate replenishing our energy from the sun and the blooming of the plants and flowers. Magically speaking, this is a time to work with divination, protection, healing abundance and prosperity. The moon represents Goddess energy herself, and deeply connected with the element of water. You don’t need much to perform a full moon ritual, but here are a few suggestions:
Altar Tool Ideas:
Bowl or chalice of water
Fresh blooms (if working on something particular, look up magical use of specific flowers-book recommendation, The Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock)
You may incorporate any crystals or stones (moonstone, selenite, labradorite, etc)
Candle(s) White or silver, or whatever you may be working on
Bundle of sage or stick of palo santo
Anything else that calls to you
Essential oils or flower petals if you’d like to take a ritual cleansing bath (do research on oils always, please!)
Small piece of paper and pen
Fire proof container or fire pit
My two sisters and I spent this moon enchanting and creating our own flower and herbal candles
Ritual:
Cleansing ceremonies are common before any ritual to cleanse yourself of negative energies or intentions. You may take a ritual bath, adding oils and petals of your choice. The moon is connected to water, imagine bathing in the moonlight and anything negative washing away with the water. Or you can moon bathe…….
Take your sage or palo santo, light and let flame go out, use smoke to waft around you and your space to cleanse of negative energy (careful with embers, set in a fireproof container when done)
Anoint candles with any oils and light, float a bloom in your chalice or bowl of water.
Hold any stones or crystals, charging them with your intention
You may sit in meditation with the moon, working to release anything that no longer serves you moving into the season of blooming and fruition.
Write down anything you wish to release, fold the piece of paper and hold in both hands. Imagine what you wish to release can escape through your breath, hold the paper up to your mouth and blow into your hands. Imagine blowing out what you no longer need and that energy leaving your body into the paper.
You may bury your paper into the earth to release, or hold paper to the flame and carefully place in fireproof container. (careful with fire, please……be safe!)
You may repeat ‘May blessings befall my loved ones and I, and let health and happiness ensue this season. Blessing to Mother Gaia, and welcome the blooming of the Earth and the fullness of life this time brings.’ Learn more tools you can use here.
